Question:
I was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I started with gestational diabetes and it didn’t go away, so the doctor said I am Type II, which some doctors call borderline, but others just classify into Type two.
Well, my sugar level in the mornings (fasting) are from 102-112 every day. Two hours after meals is usually 128-144, depending on what I eat (I am on a diabetic diet).I am not very hungry most of the time, not very thirsty, not losing weight (I am not overweight either, just average).
The thing is that I feel this weird sensation on my feet, sometimes on my toes, sometimes on my heels. I feel like tingling or burning, is not that terrible, but the sensation is there and I wonder if this is a symptom of diabetes even if my glucose are not really high and I was just diagnosed, so is not like I had diabetes for a long time because my previous A1c tests were fine. Has anyone felt these type of things in the feet? I don’t know if it’s getting worse because it’s cold, but I have the heater on and also wear two pairs of socks and I even apply moisturizer. Any comments or advice? Thanks
Here’s an answer form Yahoo Answers:
You are mildly diabetic, like me. Or prediabetic.
If you watch what you eat, keep your blood sugars tightly under control and at normal levels, and exercise 30 minutes a day, you can live a long healthy life.
I too have that exact same feelings in my toes. And my toes are like ice cubes most of the time.
I attribute this to the low carb diet I am on and not enough exercise. But some say it’s neuropathy (hurt to the nerves). Mine comes and goes too.
Here are my blood sugar numbers: http://manage.sugarstats.com/zolar1
You will see that most of the time I am in or near the normal range for my blood sugars.
If you are wanting to track yours so you can see what foods do to you, it’s free to join.
Also, I too wear 2 pairs of socks, sleep under 2 blankets & a sheet, have an electric blanket on, and a space heater in my bedroom, just so I can sleep at night. I have progressively gotten colder each week. So I know how you feel. I was diagnosed back in November 2009.
From what I read, these symptoms can go away on their own after you get your blood sugars under control for a while.
Go get yourself some evening primrose oil and some alpha-limpoic acid to help with the symptoms.
The moisturizer can cause athlete’s foot to take hold if you’re not careful. This is terrible.
Also, in diabetics, sugar likes to pool in the extremities like your toes and feet. This is a perfect breeding ground for infection. Inspect your feet daily for any changes. Call your doctor if you do.
